The Second Meeting of the La Pietra Coalition gathered 50 actors from the private and public sectors and non governamental organizations at New York University Florence to talk about the economic empowerment of women. Participants included Bethaina Kamel, activist and candidate for the Presidency of Egypt and Kah Walla, Presidential candidate in Cameroon.

"The world can non longer ignore the talents and abilities of women, who have proven they have a stabilizing power in their societies and have made important contributions to economic growth. Our mission is to create changes that allow women to fully realize their economic potential in business and civil society. We will be making our case to world leaders, including the G-20 and other global organizations," commented Sandra Taylor, Director of the La Pietra Coalition

Last fall, the La Pietra Coalition and the Economist Intelligence Unit worked together to develop the first Economic Opportunity Index for Women, which evaluated 113 countries based on the economic opportunities they offer women. The research showed that the key areas that need to be addressed are: labor policies and pratices, access to finance, education and training, and legal and social status. The Coalition created working groups in order to develop specific strategies to create change in these areas.
