We will focus our discussion on the historical and present-day experience of Afro-Latin@s in the United States, a group that is generally overlooked and invisibilized in current public discourse. From that perspective we will consider the historical presence, ideological barriers to full citizenship, and current social movements of African descendant peoples in Latin America and the Caribbean, broadening the intellectual framework further by reflecting on the political and cultural implications of the African diaspora worldwide.
