Movie will be shown in Italian with English subtitles.

Many people in Italy assume that Romani people all live in so-called “nomad camps”. Yet, of the estimated 200,000 Roma and Sinti living in Italy today, only about 40,000 live in precarious or informal housing: shacks, trailers, or occupied dilapidated buildings. The other 80% live in regular housing. Fuori campo tells the stories of some of them.

The title has a double meaning in Italian: “out of camps” and “outside the frame”, with reference to shots in film and video. Fuori campo moves outside the stereotyped frame in which Roma and Sinti people are normally viewed to show the daily lives of men and women living outside camps and getting access to housing. From Cosenza in the south to Bolzano in the north, passing through Florence and Rovigo, Sergio Panariello’s camera follows the stories of four individuals: Sead Dobreva, Kjanija Asan, Leonardo Landi and Luigi Bevilacqua.

Produced by Figli del Bronx together with the associations OsservAzione and Compare/Mammut, Fuori campo is currently being screened in various venues across Italy.
