Report
BACK

At this time of unprecedented population movements and conflict across the Mediterranean and the world, migration is everywhere, and growing fast. Dr. Nathan Bertelsen will examine the physical and mental health needs of three waves of Syrian refugees in Turkey, the country that now hosts the largest number of refugees in the world, and the key role that social integration plays for forced migrants who aim to live healthy lives in their new homes. The talk will highlight lessons learned in migration and social integration from the Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Torture (PSOT), which offers medical, mental health, social and legal services to asylum seekers in New York City, regardless of the ability to pay.
Award-winning filmmakers Tina DiFeliciantonio and Jane C. Wagner will screen clips from their documentary Seeking Refuge, which documents the stories of participants in the Bellevue Hospital/New York University Program from Jamaica, Sierra Leone, Chad and Tibet.
