The Declaration of Principles on Tolerance - adopted by UNESCO on 16 November 1995 - affirms that “tolerance is respect and appreciation of the rich variety of our world’s cultures, our forms of expression and ways of being human. Tolerance recognizes the universal human rights and fundamental freedoms of others. People are naturally diverse; only tolerance can ensure the survival of mixed communities in every region of the globe”. On the 21st anniversary of the establishement of the International Day of Tolerance, NYU in Florence, LPD invites you to an encounter to discuss together with

Sara Funaro, Florence Deputy Mayor for Welfare, Public Health, Hospitality, Integration and Equal Opportunities

Don Andrea Bellandi, Archdiocese of Florence

Imam Izzedin Elzir, Imam of Florence

Rav Joseph Levi, Chief Rabbi of Florence

the question of “tolerance” from a religious, political, economic and social perspective, in different religious and political contexts, in global and in local dynamics, with a special focus on the FLorentine experience.
