What are the consequences of living under a dictatorship? Patrizia Guarnieri’s new book demonstrates how psychology as an academic discipline and practice was marginalized in Fascist Italy: antifascist and/or Jewish scholars were persecuted and many emigrated to the United States and Palestine; some succeeded, some did not, and very few came back. Guarnieri sheds light on this ‘uncomfortable’ chapter in Italian history, which the country is still trying to come to terms with.
