According to Human Rights Watch, uncertainty surrounding the political transition in Afghanistan, along with growing pressure from Taliban insurgents, have contributed to a further deterioriation of the human rights situation throughout the country. There is growing impunity for abuses by security forces, threats to women’s rights and freedom of expression, and indiscriminate attacks on civilians. Mohammad Musa Mahmodi, Executive Director of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) will explain the challenges Afghanistan faces in promoting and implementing human rights in his country.
