In a world where Western states seem to be declining in influence, where new centres of power in Asia are rising, and where nationalist and religious ideologies once thought outdated have made a remarkable comeback, will the next twenty years be as kind to the Global Human Rights Regime as the last twenty? Is Syria an anomaly or a sign of the future? Does the rise of right-wing movements in advanced liberal democracies threat human rights from within the West? Are Russia and China rewriting the playbook when it comes to avoiding rights compliance? And why are so many states wary of the International Criminal Court? In this talk we’ll examine these and other questions and ask what’s next for human rights.
