During the week of March 19th to 25th students at New York University came together to take part in a workshop that taught them how to recycle old clothing. The workshop was designed to help participants become more environmentally and globally conscious by learning how to restyle old garments into pieces they would want to wear again.

The week was spent cutting, sewing, and designing items to be made out of donated clothes, as well as discussing the “worn stories” of clothing students had donated.  Professor Jessamyn Hatcher spent time urging students to understand and re-evaluate their relationship to old clothing so that garmets are not simply discarded. Professor Piccolo Paci taught students about the movement of environmentally conscious clothing around the world, and helped implement student’s designs into tangible pieces.  The workshop ended with the creation of a wide range of articles of clothing, including bags, dresses, shirts, pants, and jackets, as well as the knowledge of how to remake clothing items in the future.
