Sociologists Ann Morning and Marcello Maneri have interviewed 150 young people in Italy and the U.S. to explore how they think about differences between major groups in their respective societies, whether described as ‘racial,’ ‘ethnic,’ ‘minority’ or ‘immigrant’ communities. This comparison reveals not just striking dissimilarities but also surprising similarities in American and Italian discourse about culture, biology, and inequality.
