Jennifer Clement is the first woman elected President of PEN International. In this dialogue she will speak about her two award-winning novels Widow Basquiat and Prayers for the Stolen, as well as the book she is currently writing Gun Love. Clement addresses social and political themes in her novels. In Widow Basquiat she explores the life and artistry of American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, Prayers for the Stolen uncovers the tragedy of human trafficking in young girls by Mexico’s drug cartels, and Gun Love will examine gun culture in the United States. Clement will offer a fiction writing workshop for students on October 11.
