NYU Florence student Ben Haller is named editor- in- chief at the NYU Shanghai Newspaper  

Spring 2018 NYU Florence student Benjamin Haller secured an internship next semester with NYU Shanghai newspaper On Century Avenue as an editor-in-chief

Ben is a junior from NYU Shanghai majoring in Economics with a minor in Chinese Language. Before coming to NYU Florence, he was the op-ed writer for the NYU Shanghai newspaper On Century Avenue and wrote for Reason Magazine, a political publication based in Washington, D.C..

He is currently working as a writing intern for La Pietra Dialogues during Spring Semester 2018, dealing in particular with politics. Here you can read one of the pieces he wrote for the La Pietra Dialogues blog.

LPD Spring Semester 2018 Highlights: Katia Taylor and Ilenia Ciccotelli Writing on Women in Italy  

In light of the Year of Revolt 1968/2018 LPD Series, that included dialogues on women activism in Italy and abroad, NYU Florence student Katia Taylor and University of Florence student Ilenia Ciccotelli looked at the current condition of women in Italy.

Katia investigated the way Italy reacted to the #metoo movement (read her article here), while Ilenia created a column where she focuses on some of the most urgent issues concerning women in Italy and how they have developed over time (you can access it here).

Student Roundtable with Angela Davis and Gina Dent  

On April 24th, some NYU Florence students had to chance to personally meet worldwide known activists and scholars Angela Davis and Gina Dent.

The roundtable, organised by the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Committee (EDI),  followed the Angela Davis and Gina Dent´s public speech at Spazio Alfieri.

NYU Florence Short Film Jury at Middle East Now Festival  

An NYU Florence student Team mentored by Director Gail Segal of Tisch Film and Television awarded the Middle East Now festival´s prize for Best Short Film. The film awarded was “Men’s Barbershop,” a comical and relatable short film by director Mishal Al Hulail.

NYU Florence Student Zoe Trishka publishes on the Rolling Stone Italia  

NYU Florence student Zoe Trishka published two articles on music trends in the city of Naples on the Italian version of the Rolling Stone, one of the most established magazines on popular culture and music worldwide.

NYU Florence Students Walkout Against Gun Violence  

On Thursday, March 16, approximately seventy-five NYU Florence students took part in a walkout in remembrance of the seventeen students and faculty members who died at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida on February, 14.

Students Present at the Unity in Diversity Global Mayors´ Conference  

On November 7th, 2017, in the historic Salone dei Cinquecento of Florence´s City Hall Palazzo Vecchio, NYU Florence students Nikola Nenkov, Ward Hejazi, Feiran Lyu, Ruoying Tao, and Qixiu Fu addressed a a gathering of mayors from around the world on the issue of global education and how it contributes to the development of character and tolerance.

NYU Florence Stern Student Alex Deng gets internship at Wamda Capital!  

Spring 2016 NYU Florence Stern student Alex Deng secured an internship this summer with Wamda Capital in the United Arab Emirates. Wamda Capital is one of the Middle East´s main venture capital firms, which supports early stage entrepreneurial initiatives across the Middle East and North Africa. It was founded by Fadi Ghandour, one of the Middle East´s most important businessmen and philanthropists, founder of the major transportation and shipping company Aramex, who visited NYU Florence this past Spring to talk about the community development work he supports through his non-profit community development organization Ruwwad. Alex introduced Mr. Ghandour at the Dialogue and introduced himself to Mr. Ghandour during a break. Alex made the initial contact and the rest is history! Congratulations Alex on turning an unexpected opportunity into an internship! We can´t wait to hear about it!

NYU Florence students present at the Mayor of Florence´s Unity in Diversity Global Mayor´s Conference at Historic Palazzo Vecchio  

On Sunday, November 8, 2015 a group of NYU Florence students were invited to address assembled mayors, municipal representatives, and distinguished guests at the City of Florence’s global mayor’s conference ‘Unity in Diversity’ in Florence City Hall’s historic Salone dei Cinquecento. The proceedings were projected for the general public onto a big screen in Florence’s central square Piazza della Signoria below. Over 4 days, mayors from Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Europe were brought together to discuss how culture, education and intercultural dialogue can be vehicles for peace and the role that city governments can and should play to support policies that foster these processes at the local level. Speakers included Nobel prize winners and distinguished special guests like U.N. Messenger of Peace H.R.H. Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, actors Forest Whitaker and Tim Robbins; Nobel Prize Laureats Tawakkol Karman, Shirin Ebadi, and Betty Williams; and NYU’s own Awam Amkpa.
